Your editorial sucks

I guess I’m supposed to hate the New York Times and the Washington Post. I’m a wussie about reading them; I cut straight to the editorial section and read George Will and Thomas Friedman. Wonkette seems to hate Thomas Friedman. Everybody hates George Will. I hope George owns a dog.

But this is also why I watch Countdown and Rachel Maddow if I’m going to watch “TV news” — I’ve already read the newswires by that point in the day. I watch them for the same reason I read the Drudge Report or Metafilter — these are people with a good eye for news, and know how to prioritize stories by interest. I don’t actually get news from editorials — I read editorials to find out how other people synthesize whatever news is in the pipe at that point in time.

But recently, Andrew Sullivan, whom I also love, has said a couple of different times that nobody should be getting paid to write editorials anymore. There’s a motherfucking ARMY of assholes out there already writing editorials. For free. This blog makes me one of them. (And no, I harbor no illusions about being paid to do any such thing, or even necessarily NOT boring my friends).

But it makes an interesting point, for me. Because it’s a major fucking problem — too many people not only get their news from editorials, they can’t tell them apart.

Global warming is caused by your mom. Therefor liberals hate your mother. And your mother is the one who forwards you all those emails about godless liberals. Where would you be without your mother?

But somebody’s getting paid to write that.

So maybe I should quit reading George Will and Thomas Friedman.

My quality is going down as my quantity goes up. There is probably an economist who could explain this to me.

Wouldn’t necessarily understand the explanation, but I bet they could do it.

Well, you figured out how to post, at least. I did, too, though.

It’s what happens when a user is forced to run a web site.
